Went and caught it last night. Couldn't much say no to the ticket price ($0.00), or the fact that I was seeing it in DTS rather than SDDS (I asked the manager to run in DTS as SDDS doesn't sound as good), or that it was actually focused & the volume was at the proper level. There are perks to knowing the manager of the theater...
Anyway, I went into the film fearfull of the fact the Ryan Reynolds seemed to be a big presence in the film. Having seen Van Wilder more than a few times, I just didn't see Reynolds doing anything other than ruining a Blade movie. Furtunately for me, he didn't ruin much of anything. Actually quite the opposite, he was usually the best part of the scene.
The guy they used for the role of "original vampire" didn't really work so well for me. Sure, he was a bit of a bad ass looking guy. But he wasn't putting off a "don't even think about messing with me" type of presence or attitude IMO. I can't believe that there was no one better to play that part.
I don't know what was wrong with Snipes in this one.
The one big bonus was
lack of shitty CGI!

While I liked Blade 2, that
horrid CGI that was used for a lot of fight scenes in B2 was not here. There was one slightly bad looking scene with Snipes jumping out of a window from rather high up. But other than that, there was no major use of bad CGI for complete humanoid characters.
So, while it certainly had a downside or two, I was rather entertained by it. Will certainly catch it again, especially if I can view it in the same or similar viewing circumstances.
