To knock off Rob's thread, what's the cheesiest movie you've enjoyed the most but are ashamed to admit?

For me it would have to be "They Live". So bad but...so good!!!

The cheesiest that I actually liked?  That's a tough call...probably Armageddon.  Upon the first viewing you could pause it every 5 minutes and write what was going to happen next- it's about as predictable as a movie could get.  Yet I like Bruce Willis, the hottie astronaut chick was a fox (ditto for Liv), and the effects were okay.  Not to mention it had some pretty good F/X.  The same could be said of Independence Day- I can't defend it, but I thought it was good, stupid fun.

Honorable Mention has to go to The Day After Tomorrow.  Yeah, the premise was patently absurd, the science preposterous, the story ludicrous, but I liked the cast.  And the effects were fantastic.  Maybe it's just me, but I get an immense chuckle out of seeing famous landmarks destroyed in movies!   Comets hitting bridges, aliens using their evapo-rays on the White House, tornados scouring away the Hollywood sign...great stuff!  And watching giant tidal waves washing away the Statute of Liberty never gets old!

BTW, They Live! totally rocked.  As Roddy said, "I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble gum.  And I'm all out of bubble gum.":jester:

Clifford
Red Dawn
Hawk the Slayer
Cool as Ice
Over the Top
Flash Gordon - one with the Queen soundtrack
Red Heat

Should I go on?

I wouldn't really consider They Live a guilty pleasure. It's an awesome subversive sci-fi b-movie.

"Hell Comes To Frogtown'
 (I think that was it)
First movie I saw Rowdy Roddy P in, moving his cheese from the ring to the screen.  I don't know what kind of movie they thought they were making....

Romero's first Dawn of the Dead  That one is in my top 10 of all time, even as art.  But my wife walked out after 15 minutes.

There's always the classic starring Bill Maher, of all people... Cannibal Women in the Avacado Jungle of Death.

Vampire's Kiss, starring Nicholas Cage, is another of my all time favorite cheesy movies.  This I recommend to just about anyone - it is an intriguing mix of great acting (Cage, Maria Conchita Alonzo), terrible acting (Jennifer Beals), and a bizzare plot.

I just saw this one after reading all the yammering about what a classic it was.  Well, I must say it was definitely MST3K material.  Ack!  Red tempra paint for blood, zombies with uh, just blue makeup...really campy!  The recent remake, however is damn excellent in comparison.  It had it's lame moments and cliches, but I thought it was unique because the characters acted like you might expect people to act in a crisis situation.  There was more logic to it than the usual "idiot-going-off-by-himself-to-get-stupidly-killed" scenario.  Plus having fast-moving, aggressive zombies just makes tons of sense and makes it much scarier.  Oh yeah, and it takes place in Milwaukee, so that was kinda cool! Ha!

I don't know if people consider it cheesy or not, (I know the Onion made a joke about it, so perhaps the public concensus is that it is cheesy); but I like the movie Willow dammit!  (Onion's headline one-liner was: "Willow Rented")  Come on, any movie with Little People™ in it is all right by me! :)  Other than that I'd say Humanoids From The Deep.

Mine is "My Blue Heaven" with Steve Martin.

"It's dangerous, you standing here in the frozen food section"
"Why's that?"
"Cause you could melt...all.. this...stufffff"

A favorite that I don't like to mention in public is The Adventures of Ford Fairlane. The Diceman at his finest!

For me, it's:

"Monty Python & the Holy Grail" - it's my favorite all-time movie (of any genre).

Brian De Palma's "The Fury". Gotta love those psychically exploding heads and nasty CIA agents! Tacky, tacky fun.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0077588/

Zatôichi (2003). Gotta love those transcendent, Japanese decapitations!
http://imdb.com/title/tt0363226/

Both movies contain a good measure of humor, and are very, very good for pulp. Bear in mind to avoid disappointment that this particular blind swordsman film will have somewhat slower pacing than you might expect. It's largely an internal saga; the character/director feels his mortality coming on...but when he strikes watch out...and there's a big, clogging-like dance number at the end.
