  James, how long is the connecting  USB to USB mini cable. I would need enough length to  reach the BDP due to my shelf arrangement.. Thanks....

I think 1 meter is just the length of the included cable.

I would assume that it would work just fine with a cable up to 5 meters, the maximum length for USB 2.0 ports and devices.

Now that's even more encouraging ....What do you suggest for a longer cable of quality ?

I've previously recommended some speaker cables and most recently a Lifatec Silflex Toslink cable, but I usually steer clear of recommending USB cables beyond the basic generic variety when used to connect data storage devices or reading a CD into a buffer memory player.
