Bought this refurbish from AC4L -- got it for $249 shipped. The price is $299 -- however, when you put it in the cart it deducts 20% -- use to list for around $1400 in 2011. I do not need 4k and HDMI 2.2 or Atmos -- so it was a no-brainer for me.

Easy to set up and the sound is clean and clear with low distortion -- picture through HDMI is really nice at 1080p. This thing is powerful and has a lot of headroom.

Sound and vision test >
the DTR-50.2’s left channel, from CD input to speaker output with two channels driving 8-ohm loads, reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 147.4 watts and 1 percent distortion at 172.4 watts. Into 4 ohms, the amplifier reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 200.4 watts and 1 percent distortion at 259.8 watts.

Five channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 110.8 watts
1% distortion at 134.1 watts

Seven channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 107.5 watts

Hmmm. I know very little about the home theater side of audio, but I'm looking to set up a simple 5.1 system. Are Integra A/V receivers much better than Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo, etc?

If so, any reason not to get the DTR-20.4 for $160? I have a small room and am only going to have a 1080p TV

No.  Just another choice.

The various models I've seen seem to run a bit hotter than the other brands, even the pre-pros, but I can't say that exists with each and every model.

Integta is part of Onkyo -- the 20.4 will serve your needs and is hard to beat at that price -- it tends to come down to overall preference, as I have owned Marantz, Denon, Pioneer, Yamaha, etc., and I prefer the Integra -- for me, they tend to be more clean, clear, and less distorted  when listening through the speakers. My 50.2 is not running hot, however give it room to breathe
