Vinnie's Tripath Battery Powered with 93db Coincidents?

Do you guys think Vinnie's low powered amp would work well with Coincident speakers from Canada. I owned the Super Eclipses a few years back and thought they were pretty sweet sounding speakers. At 93db sensitivity, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on their mating with the Tripath. One problem might be their impedence - 14ohm nominal.

On a second note, has anyone placed any orders for Vinnie's modified units?

AJ,

The Clari-T-Amp can drive 14 ohm nominal speakers, but Tripath mentioned to me that there will be more of a peak in the frequency response around 20kHz.  I do not know if this would be noticed or not.  You'll get less power output when you use a 14 ohm speaker vs an 8ohm speaker, but at 93dB, it should be enough (unless you want to play at LOUD volumes   ).

That's great; and I believe the Coincident is 94db instead of 93.

I mentioned the Partial Eclipse II were one pair of speaks in soooo many that I truly regret selling. The feeling is like that of losing a dog. The only reason I did was that the two side firing woofers loaded up my LR too much, and were with me when I moved into a much smaller place, otherwise they were true keepers; they would not have been a victim of high rotation audiophilia nervosa.

What I didn't mention was that the Coincidents sounded flat out amazing with the Tripath Carver ZR and Joule Electra tube pre. I would imagine the entire line up of Israel's stuff would sound great. Maybe I will take the Clari-T with me if I can get away to CES this year. He has some new ideas.

Last week I played Vinnie's amp using my old Joule pre, and the combo was very exciting. Hand in glove sonics.

hi jerry,

funny you should ask this - i asked him this same question about my 97db-efficient coincident victory's, in another thread about these amps!

i got the same answer, too.  i also asked vinnie if he could get more info on the high-frequency rise;  he may be checking...

Hey doug, unfortunately your link only takes the reader to page 1 of 8 pages, so I don't know where your post is, and I'm too lazy to look through the whole ting.

So are you getting one of these little amps?

my 1st post to that thread was on page 6; but not really much more info different than what vinnie said here.  (other than how great this amp is!)  he may answer the rising frequency response thing if he gets more info from tripath...
