Yes some people actually bought extra Phillips drives when we had them.

No that would be direct from us. - I believe we are using a SANYO drive though not the Sony.  I will check.

Perhaps I read it it wrong when you posted it earlier but I thought it was a Sony. Thanks for checking...Those metal guide rails seem to say that it's a very smooth and well supported tray movement....much loke on my old Sony Es700.

 I found the Sony number on an earlier post July 2016....the drive chosen was the Sony  KHM 313....if it's aSanyo now  when did it change ?  thanks again James.

I will ask engineering but I think we changed it before production started.  Or it might be a Sony drive with a Sanyo laser assembly.

Thanks again James. I never thought these things could be customized and tailored. Why would the laser be different from the drive? Is the Sanyo a better choice for reliability ? In the future, if Sanyo decides to cop out, could we still purchase spare units from you? I guess I'm a bit paranoid about that  Phillips deal leaving my otherwise great BCD1 player useless....don't want that to happen again if possible...

For those into disc spinners, getting these spare parts is a great idea.  I finally sold my LD players about a year and a half back.  I got rid of everything, including discs and the extra spare parts (e.g. spindle motor).  I had two players, a Pioneer Elite CLD-79 and a Pioneer 704.  They are essentially the same machine.  I did that on purpose.  I had them in two separate systems but figured between the spare parts and extra player with the parts that I could keep it running for a very long period of time.

Probably more easily available in abundance for future-proofing.

OK I have the straight goods.

There never was a Sony drive - just the Sony Laser.

We buy the drive from Stream Unlimited and they originally used the Sony Laser but now use the Sanyo laser due to availability.

The good thing is that Stream Unlimited manufactures the drive and a lot of manufacturer's use it so it looks like it will continue to be manufacture for many years to come.

As always there are no guarantees with technologies that are no longer supported by mainstream manufactures.

Its the Stream Unlimited drive.

Comes in Metal or Plastic versions - we use the metal one.

Yes all our drives have the metal guides.
