Just wondering if the fan is audible from a more than 10 feet or so, no music playing.

Very audible!  Annoying, IMO.  I could still hear it from inside the closet I had it in.  But sticking in a new fan which is nearly inaudible only takes a few minutes.

I had a customer that was interested in my thoughts on this amp for using with a VMPS sub. I drove to the local Guitar World and had them turn them on for me so I could hear the fans. The guys there thought I was absolutely nuts (but since I had bought some things from them in the past and sent them some previous customers they generally don't mind helping me as long as my requests are not too far fetched   ).

The end result was that some were louder than others. The higher-end models seemed to be a little quieter. You could probably get away with them in a HT setup (my CRT fan is just about as loud) but definitely not for music. That being said, there are a lot of people that remove the fans entirely. These amps are intended to be in a rack with lots and lots of other components and are therefore normally subjuct to quite a bit of heat. For standard sub duty the reports I have heard say they work just fine. But of course, do so at your own risk since this definitely voids the warranty and gives you a real possibility of deep frying your amp if you run it too hard.

Best of luck.
