This is a very special amp!
Don thought it was one of the best sounding amps he had built, and (therefore) didn't sell it. Instead, he kept it as one of his personal amps. He told himself that he would never sell it.
An audiophile friend of mine bought it directly from Don a few years ago. At the time, Don was selling some of his things for personal reasons. Even so, he still didn't want to sell it. My friend and Don talked about it for awhile, and Don finally agreed to let it go.
This amp shined in my friend's system, ousting a far more expensive (and highly regarded) tube amp. Over the course of a year (or so) my friend put it up against several highly rated amps... and the Don Allen won every time. In the end, a far more expensive set of Sophia Electric monos finally bested the Don Allen. But not by much - and it may very well have been more about system synergy than anything else.
I purchased it about a year ago thinking I would put together a low watt system, but this never happened.
I believe it puts out about 3 watts per channel.
I will see if I can take some pictures of it tomorrow (Wednesday) and upload them here. Basically, it looks just like Don's other amps - black chasis with a silver thunderbolt across the front.
