If the sub is powered, you simply adjust the volume at the subwoofer.  At least on my Sunfire amp there is a volume control for the sub's internal amp.

since the dvd player doesn't have volume control, wouldn't this mean that you'd have to manually adjust the sub vol to match the mains as you change the volume of the jolida?

Yup. Seems like more than a little bit of a pain in the ass...

I thought this was just for occasional movies, with the system mainly for 2 channel without subs.  Since the system was not 5.1 (or 7.1, etc.), this was just meant as a means to use the subs with an amp that does not have preamp outs.  I'll agree that it is not as good, but it will work.  The initial thought was to get a tube amp (before the choice turned to the Jolida 1501RC) without remotes.  If you are going to get up to adjust the volume anyway, might as will make it a little more trouble and adjust two.  Work off some of that extra helping at dinner.

lol.....yeah adjusting both volumes was the reason I didn't go there but burning calories isn't a bad thing either.

Jolida should be here in a few days.  Looking forward to it, I miss my music right now.  :(

For a little more a Scott Nixon integrated would be very nice.

Or a JVC F10 100 wpc 6.1 HT digital/hybrid receiver for $250 is another option.  Not great build quality, but has lots of features and sounds very good after the 300+ hour break-in.

I don't see anything about an integrated on Scott Nixon's site. Where can I find out more about this? Thanks.

Once you get into the Scott Nixon site, go to the bottom (under AmpKit).  There he describes a 40 wpc integrated and has images of it at the very bottom.  Note that to keep the circuit as short as possible and cost low the switch for selecting source 1 or 2 is on the back.
