Yes, the Erleuchtung is a great match for my Odyssey amps, I have the Extreme Monos.  The standard version has 14 tubes, all 6N1P.  They go for about $6 each unless you want cryo'd tubes then they run about $14.  I think the reference version has 16 tubes and they may be of a more costly variety.

Tsunami,

Are the 6N1P in the standart version NOS or current production ?
Did you had an occasion to compare the erleuchtung to the tempest ?

Christophe

Christophe,

My pre came with Svetlana 6N1P tubes.  They have since been replaced with cryo'd NOS tubes.  I can't tell you which ones are better because the originals were getting pretty worn by the time I replaced them.

I have never heard the Tempest pre.  When I talked to Klaus about the Erleuchtung I asked about the comparison to the Tempest.  He said, to simplify his words, that the SL preamp was better than the Tempest.  IIRC, he said the Erleuchtung was "f***ing incredible, really", if you could imagine him saying something like that.  :)

I've kept the old tubes for reference.  I believe they are current production Svetlana tubes.  I'm not sure but I doubt old NOS tubes had Made in Russia printed on them.  They also have a 9903 number which may be a date code.  6H1n-EB 9903.  They were fine sounding tubes, probably a tribute to the circuit they work in as much as the tube itself.  I began to notice the preamp sounding somewhat recessed so I replaced them.  I plan to order some more tubes soon to have a spare set and may try the current production tubes once again.

I can really understand that point as I tried the current production 6N1P in my njoe tjoeb and the sound was interresting but not as good, by a fair margin, as some other tubes in this player.

I am a devoted tube pre amp lover and while i dont own the stratos I have played with a number of tube pre ss amp combos. I have heard klaus's line at a number of shows and been very impressed. Let me just suggest some things-because i dont know your budget

Space tech labs. Albert cheapest is less the 300 and i can vouch for its quality. plus he can custom anything to your requirements including inputs and i believe impendence

I have heard great things about the dehavilland and SAS lines but heave not listened personally

REstored fisher 400c- a abit on the classic sound side but a very unerrated pre amp. about 1K restored. The better sounding but uglier fisher 400cx a and 2 is more complicated uglier and twice the price-if you find one

best of luck
