Glenn - made of what kind of wood and what does it weigh for what I assume is a 2'x2' panel?

They are just at 18".. Weight is 20 pounds. It is made from a blonde MDF. You can paint it or just leave it how it is. Honestly I would have no problem leaving it how it is in my room. It looks pretty outstanding.

Scattering down to around 650hz. Diffusion from 900hz to just around 10k.  These are machine cut at our plant on a CNC.

-No gags (a good thing)
-Not just a random bunch of blocks like you generally see. These are calculated to give accurate/smooth/real diffusion.
-Cut within 300th of a inch.
-$179.00 each!

so it looks like you cut the unique 22 column's and glue each of them together at the very bottom versus attaching each to a backplate (which I couldn't discern from the photo)?

It is a little more than just that. We use rods mostly. The outer part makes a frame. That way you don't see strips and it is much more solid. Basically it all locks/claps together. There is very little glue used. And what is glued is clapped together by the inner metals rods (you can't see those).

For me it's going to come down to this Gotham Skyline or the 4A Alpha 2D(a) design.

I'll have to send you pics and give you a phone call as the color association will matter just as much as the design differences; the Gotham being a pure diffusor, while the 4A Alpha being a hybrid scatterer/diffuser/ absorber.

Would look more uniform if 24"wide if stacked on a 24"x48" panel.

Because the math does not come out to 24". If I "cheated" and make it 24" it would not be as effective. The well depth and size vs the root all come into play.

BTW that is the reason our Q7D is not 24" also.

Weight. Currently they are ~20 lbs. Increasing to 24"x24" would increase the weight closer to 30 lbs. Heavier to attach to the ceiling where I presume most of these will end up going.

A good rule of thumb is 1' away for every 1" of well depth, so 5' in this case. In practicality, you may be able to sit a bit closer with no audible artifacts.

Many similar 2D diffusers on the market have what seems to be random placement of well depths. These have a notable pattern. It would be interesting to hear GIK's thoughts on this difference.

These look really gnarly for sure . I'm sure you can paint them if your not a big fan of the raw MDF. Are the highest pieces all the same and are they on each side of the corners? Or is the center higher than the corners? Depending on the answer I suppose you could cover the whole thing in speaker cloth or what you use on your other products and secure it on the back. Then it would just look like a box and you could match it to all of your other GIK products:thumb:.

I'm not sure how you would square up the corners thou for the corners? Maybe some type of large holed wire mesh or something else that wouldn't effect performance.
