What's wrong with early Amy Grant?  Isn't that what she was?

Personally, I take Mahalia Jacksons of the Gospel over Amy Grants of the "folk" Christian.

If you want to try some traditional Folk, have a go at The Big 3 featuring Mama Cass. Though they have some lighter (and heavier) songs, they perform quite a few traditional gospel arrangements on this album;

...though not gospel, this is my favorite Mama Cass (Big 3) song

Jennifer Knapp http://www.jenniferknapp.com/

I have Kansas and Lay it Down. I have not heard her newest album, Letting Go, which she made after spending more than 5 years travelling and not playing music. She won at least one Dove Award, nominated for several as well as a couple of Grammies.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but this thread was started on Nov 29, 2004, so answering the OP in your posts may be somewhat fruitless.  Perhaps you might reply to Ms. Karen Mcmillen, who seems like a nice lady and is the one who revived this tread yesterday.  As it's her first post and it is promoting her CD, her interest in AC may be somewhat suspect, but there's no harm is wishing her the best of luck in her endeavors.

Back to the topic, from someone who is not a Christian, I would highly recommend the late Judy Sill.  She's from a time when we had quite a different sort of Christianity than is espoused these days, but the music is beautiful regardless.

Although I'm not sure you would call Eva Cassidy ( "Songbird" LP or CD) as a Christian female vocalist, I do believe the Lord took her up to Heaven just to hear her sing in person. Some wonderful tracks, "Wade in the Water" makes me want to get baptized again.
