Clean Signal Path help
« on: 27 Nov 2004, 05:54 am »
Hi All,
I'm another one of those headphone freaks who has only been introduced to AC recently, so please excuse my postcount
I've read a ton of threads here and hope I can tap into the wisdom here :D  Besides, at this point, I really want to beef up my 2-channel rig, and hopefully early next year I'll be adding a new poweramp or monos to the mix.

[As posted over at headfi.org]
In my recent quest to upgrade my ICs I began wondering just how to set up all of those snakes. It is actually rather important, since I will need to know what length ICs to buy.

The components I want to hook up:

Cary 306/200 CDP
Marantz PM-17 integrated amp (for speaker listening)
Melos Maestro (for occasional headphone listening -- I don't have a power amp for speakers...yet)
Singlepower Supra headphone amp.
Pioneer DV-563a Universal player

Currently, I have the signal split with Vampire splitters right @ my Cary's RCA outputs:
Vampire splitter: --> Nitrogen ICs --> Supra --> 650/Equinox
Vampire splitter: --> Nitrogen ICs --> Marantz integrated --> Kimber 8TC --> DynAudio Audience 70s

As is, 2 Components are left out:
The Melos is not plugged in at all
The Pioneer DVD-A/SACD player is only routed into my integrated amp, and can't be used with headphones b/c not plugged into the Supra.

Is there some way, without degrading the signal much, to employ all these components at once? For Example:

Cary & Pioneer --> Marantz --> Supra (tape-out 1) // Melos (via tape-out2)

I am worried that running the signal to the Marantz and then the Supra will harm the sound quality coming out of the Supra. Is that a valid concern?  I might consider a switchbox of sorts, so please feel free to offer suggestions.  However, if possible, I'd like to use what I currently have so that I can dedicate my (future) funds towards ICs and PCs.

Thanks for any/all input!!
