Glad to join and looking forward to giving experiences and getting knowedge and opinions.
My first bite in audio was hanging out for endless hours at a local store getting to know whatever they had on hand even though I couldn't afford it. That was when I was 14.
Now at 58 I haven't changed a bit. I still lurk at audio stores and shows looking at things way out of my price range. Never stop dreaming.
I started with a Lloyds all in one.. Music sounded weird since I never heard songs in stereo before (dating myself to transistor radio days). Then came added insight with the need to upgrade.
My first better vintage gear included a Sansui 9090db and akai GXC570 that I saved up for when I was 19. Still have the Sansui.
The about 15 years ago I adopted every NHT item I could get my hands on. I started with 1.5 speakers, then 2.5, then 2.9 and finally 3.3's. each time, my thoughts were "well, if this sounds so good, how much better will the better model sound". Tied it together with NHT Controller and Power5 - that was music heaven.
I accumulated duplicate and triplicate NHT speakers because I found them used at such low prices I couldn't resist.
I still have all that equipment plus more, but the setup in my family room now is Oppo BDP 105D, Bryston BP20 preamp, twin Bryston 7B amps, Egglestonworks Andra speakers.
My theory about sound systems is that there are 2 types of audiophiles: those people who strive for sound that accurately reproduces the original event and those people that want an incredible sound experience that just feels great and moves them. To me, that is like comparing fresh fruit that are perfect and gourmet prepared cooked food with spices. You can never win an argument over which is better. In food I don't eat the same thing every day and in music I keep changing parts of my system to experience different flavors.
I reside in Central NJ .
