Upgrade to NuForce Ref9 amps?
« on: 9 Jan 2017, 07:22 pm »
What experience do people have with upgrades to the NuForce Ref9 Class D mono amps by TDSS in Indiana?  I have a pair of Ref9 V3 SEs.  I've seen one rave review of the upgrade results but would like to see further experience before committing to and paying for the upgrade.

Relatedly, I'd like to see people's evaluation of the NuPrime amps (esp. ST10) that most closely parallel the NuForce Ref9 amps.  (Nu Prime is a successor company to NuForce, run by NuForce's founder.)

Thanks,
DonD

Welcome to AudioCircle, DonD!

Ref9 is a fun amp!  :thumb:

I heard v2 10 years ago, it really kicked butt.

A good friend of mine sent in his Model 9se v3 for final upgrades and they sound great.  It also fixes the problem with the amps dying from the RF that the amp produces due to poor cables and shielding.  (he had one die twice due this problem, fixed under waranty) He felt it was worth the $500 per amp.  I heard them and they do sound better.
