jfets, mosfets, or bipolar devices in preamps?
« on: 3 Mar 2003, 11:23 pm »
Hi,
Was wondering if there is so called "the best" device to use in a preamp/buffer/line level setting, i.e. if we were to start from scratch and build a preamp ground up, what devices would you choose and why?

I am trying to find out if there is a general preference as far as picking device types for best sonics, and after thinking about it for a while, it seems that we could probably achieve very good sonics regardless of what device type is being used if your typical engineering parameters like open-loop gain  & bandwidth are kept the same.  What do you guys think?

The sweetest amps seem to be Class-A using fast bipolars.  CODA is a case-in-point.  Also, the Parasound JC-1.
