Sold Tube Preamplifier
« on: 31 Dec 2016, 09:26 pm »
For sale my Twin Audio Sinfonia transformer coupled tube preamplifier.
I pay PayPal and shipping to the lower 48.
I am located in Austin TX.

Excellent build, very good parts used throughout.

I am including all the tubes you see in the picture: NOS RCA Rectifier and 6SN7s, Sophia 6SN7s and a Bendix Rectifier.

Thanks for looking.

EDIT: Here's some additional info from the guy I bought it from, the original owner who apparently is a much better salesman than me:
Comes with brand new NOS Bendix 5Y3 and pair of Sophia Electric 6SN7 (Grade A)...and a matched pair of RCA 6SN7.  The tube pre is made with all high quality parts (neotech wire, furutech IEC, CMC binding posts and ceramic sockets, Jensen copper foil caps, etc.) and is transformer coupled.  This is a VERY iron rich design.  Excellent sound and such a beauty to look at as well.

I had a Twin Audio amp that I should have never sold for two reasons: It was a very fine amplifier and it had very little resale value. Anyone know what happened to the Twin Audio guy? He seems to have disappeared. I can't remember his name...

Super high-quality work. Someone should buy this.

Thanks Jack - I paid a lot more than my asking price, and the original owner who I bought it from paid a lot more than me. So you are correct regarding resale. At my asking price I suppose someone can't lose his shirt on it at least. It is a fine preamplifier, and I don't regret buying it even if it proves hard to sell. I'm not in this hobby to make money, that's for sure.

It really is well made with excellent parts quality and build.
I believe the guy who built was named Thomas Ho, but I can't remember the Twin Audio owner. I believe what happened was he built good stuff but like anything in this hobby it's really hard to make a living at it. I hope he's doing well.

Still for sale, I have had a few pokes but no offers yet. I believe the tubes alone approach the asking price (new tube prices) but don't quote me on that, I'm too lazy to look up prices.

Beautiful work on the wiring. Can you tell me what the advantages/differences of a transformer coupled design are? Also what are the dimensions (including height)? Also, if it's not too much to ask do you have a pic of the front? (It's tough to see the name plate and profile from the angled pic.)

I've been casually looking around for a tubed preamp that I can use with both tube and solid-state amps (I switch them out according to season as my tube amp gives off a lot heat - great for winter, not so great for summer). Any thoughts based on how you've used this unit?

thanks,
stas

PM sent to see if you would sell the unit without the tubes. I have all the 6SN7s ever made so I don't really need the tubes.
Thanks!

Thanks!

I'd be interested in the Sofia tubes if you sell it without them.

Megasat and Woody, I sent each of you a PM.

Onethousandanswers - Sorry, I just now saw your post.
I eMailed the builder and asked about the transformer coupling and he said he built it with Transformers because they sounded better than capacitors.

I have only used this preamp with tube amps, so I don't know about driving SS vs. tubes.

I'll try to measure and take additional pics tomorrow.

Thanks for the interest y'all.

I'm the original owner of this preamplifier and I can attest, this is an incredible piece both visually and sonically.  I searched for a long time when choosing the tubes that it comes with.  The Bendix rectifier and Sophia tubes were both top dollar.  Even the RCA tubes that this comes with are top class and shouldn't be discredited.

Someone snag this preamp before I am tempted enough cough up some money and bring her back home.

Well, I was going to snatch the preamp without the tubes mainly because I have many version of RCA 6SN7 and the Sophia 6SN7s select grade tubes. I mainly wanted to try the 6SN7 preamp since I already have almost all the 6SN7s ever made except a few types.

Anyway, it seems like the preamp is going back to your hands and I should be happy but yet a little sad. But the reunion between the original owner and his former preamp is a stairway to the audio heaven so congrats!  :thumb:

Guys, unfortunately I'm not going to be able to purchase the preamplifier.  I've informed Sebrof of this inability.  I hope all previously interested parties get the chance to purchase this preamplifier as I am sure whoever ends up with it will be very happy with this, IMO end-game piece.  Good luck to all and sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused.

Regards,
Steven
