Hello,

Just wondering if the Eminence Definimax 15" are suitable for OB?

I have never tried one.   Imagine there will be mixed thoughts on this piece.

On the one side the FS is low.  Good.
On the same side the sensitivity is high.  Good, especially for a passive paring with a wide range driver.

In the middle is the XMAX.  Not a lot at 9mm, but not bad either.

On the other hand the QTS is not quite the perceived ideal of 0.7.

I would say perceived as I had success with drivers lower in QTS.

How would you implement this driver?  Biamped or passive with a full ranger?  EQ possible?

I am definitely a proponent of lower Qts drivers in OB. The better motor control exhibited by a low Q driver influences attack and decay which are properties that are often neglected in many designs. Excessive decay found in "sloppy" high Q woofers can produce a ringing or artificial reverberance that can be perceived as a confused sound during complex musical passages. I have found that many OB designs exhibit this quality.

Of course lower Q drivers will likely need some type of compensation, usually in the form of active equalization or a clever crossover design.

This is a hard to drive pro woofer rated 1200W rms, magnet/motor is big, sensitivity=94,7 suggest it not hi efficiency electrically, considering it this woofer may emit no sound w/20W rms or more, as always Eminence dont inform no to calc power threshold.

A good 'Pro' woofer that might be worth considering is the Faital Pro 15PR400 (400 watts RMS), though it is not the cheapest on offer it is highly regarded.

I had a pair of Faital in hand two years ago, stupid I'm, I sold them.
Now wanting to start an OB project and really considering them....
Top notch built quality and packing.
