I disagree.  He did not say entry to high end, he said entry-level.  In any case,  these kind of reviews are meaningless, come to think of it most audio reviews are.  Has someone compared a $2.5K TT to a $1.5K TT side by side with the same cartridge and concluded the $1.5K TT is not "entry level" worthy?  Surely, something like a Rega P5 or RP6 or Marantz TT15 would be a nice entry to analog playback.

Au contraire: "A most impressive debut for a most impressive new high-end entrant, Shinola Audio." Hmm, I wonder what he means?

The only thing to change, get rid of the AQ mat and buy an AR felt mat.

Ah I get it, one has to spend at least $2500 per component to get into high end audio. :duh:
And it must not have a properly designed vibration control method, just a moderate amount of mass on brass cones thank you very much.  Antiskate is also a bit of Physics gobbledigook.
Sorry Ozarktom, that AR deck is less than 1K, it's not high end.
I am catching on so let's move on...

To clarify, it's entry into high end.  I own a project debut carbon and it's nice, but time to move up...

Nice review! Only potential issue for some (inveterate tweekers) may be the on board phono stage. Still though, a few upgrades can be had.

I had a Rega P3-24 with a high output MM Denon cart (no longer made, forgot the model....103??) I thought it sounded great, especially for the money. I really regret selling. Kicked the crap out my old Thorens TD-165 in pretty much every way.

Still, probably can't go wrong w/ VPI.

Oh, when pricing stuff, be sure to include cost of a vacuum record cleaner. I think they really make a big difference in SQ. Best of luck.

I just bought a Dual 701 from Bill at fixmydual.com with a new stylus on a Shure V-15 Type III and I am in vintage analog heaven! Highly recommended...

I got my first Dual turntable with Shure cartridge back in high school.  Wore the thing out midway through college.  I will always have a soft spot for them.  They sound great, and are built to last.

Well, the 1972 Linn LP-12 is now $2500+, still rated as one of the most musical  tt today.-see TAS

To bad the AR beats it. Here is a new listing of an AR for $475. :o
If I still owned records, this would be mine. The AR is the best kept secret in audio today. :thumb:

BTW, a Linn dealer is the one that pointed this out to me years ago. We used a Koetsu Black cartridge on both tables.
