I'm seeking to purchase a NUC with an Intel i3 processor to use strictly as a music server.
A friend suggested a Sonictransporter might work, too.
The goal is to test a new OS/player which will NOT work with an Apple product.

GIST
1)  intel i3 or similar
2)  DC power input (preferably 12 volt internal--I've read ost NUCs come with a 19 volt power supply however internally they step it down to 12 volts.)
3)  MUST be able to house an INTERNAL SSD [I can buy this separately]
4)  8 gb RAM, 4 gb minimum [I can buy this separately]

A NUC or NUC-like product would be ideal.
Will gladly purchase RAM or SSD separately if not included.
Efficient enough to be powered by a battery/LPS/ultracap would be great.

RECOMMENDATIONS are welcome.
Thank you.

If by DC power input you mean machines that use power bricks instead of having an AC cord plug into the computer then look at the Dell, Lenovo and HP. All three have micro units which use power bricks.

All three make micro units. There are other brands too which can be found by Googling mini pc or micro pc.

You could of course also use a laptop...

On sale @ Amazon for 301 shipped.  It is fanless and has Intel i5 6200U.  Does not have disk, memory or OS but there are options to add memory and disk.

Check out Qotom.net.  Don't rely on the configurations and prices on their site - they can customize memory, ssd (m2 type), wifi, etc.  And by emailing them you get a better price.  I bought one from them and am very satisfied,  except the hdmi is picky.

Thank you for the recommendations.
I'm contacting two of the recommended vendors and we'll see what happens.
Will keep you posted.
