Hello - I live in the Chicago suburbs and am the second owner of a pair of VMPS Super Tower II speakers which I have proudly used in the living room of my home for many years. People can't believe such large speakers are actually in a home, but there they are in all their glory.
They started to sound bad, buzzing and distorted a while back and we stopped using them except for television sound.
I took a look recently and the reason is the foam surrounds for the 12" and 15" drivers are bad. It has cracked (or worse) on the 12" ones and turned to dust on the 15" ones.
What is the best solution? Should I try refoaming the cones or just replace them since they are close to thirty years old now? I would like to keep them and don't mind putting the time and effort into restoring them.
Are the Dayton drivers I found on the drivers listing page appropriate for this model? (295-204 & 295-206)
Thank you for any help you can provide.
