Rogue Eighty-Eight in excellent condition. I'm giving it a 7/10 rating only because of it's age. I believe it to be about 15 years old. I sent it to Rogue Audio in December for a full checkup. They replaced anything that looked warn and gave it clean bill of health. Since then it has been retubed with a matched quad of Tung-Sol 6550s ($150) , matched quad of Electro-Harmonix 12AU7s ($60) and it is using a matched pair pf Rogue labeled 12AX7s (have a few hundred hours but really sound great in this amp.) Rogue also has supplied a new shipping box and packing materials. This is the nicest used example of an 88 you will find. While my price is a bit higher than most used 88s, my reason is the recent service, packaging and new tubes, this is $450 invested into this amp. You can buy a used 88 cheaper but you'll probably end up spending at least this much getting it up to speed. Even with 60Wpc in Ultra-Linear or 40W in Triode mode I had no problem driving my Martin Logan EM-ESLs with this amp. I never felt the need for more power. I should easily be able to drive any speaker with a sensitivity around 90db.
Cosmetically it's in great shape, there are just a few rub marks on the cover.
The only thing I can say about this amp that's not 100% positive is, since it uses a fan for cooling the tubes, it's not 100% silent. If you require that, this would not be the amp for you. It never bothered me as my listening seat is about 15 feet from my equipment.
After retubing and the factory overhaul, this amp should provide you with another decade of listening pleasure. If you do run into any issues down the road, Rogue's service is excellent and they only charge a $180 bench fee for most repairs.
I can't say enough about how wonderful sounding of an amp this really is. A great gateway into the world of tube audio. Plenty of tube rolling options as well.
