The fact is, on the rare occasion that you hear something playing in-store and know that you just MUST have it, is an occasion that you never forget.

For me, it was this little gem.

Walked into a record store in Nashua, NH and heard this playing. The album cover was in the "new release" display, but I had never heard of the band. Two or three cuts in I knew I was buying it. I remember this moment all these years later. Not disappointed.

“Nuthin Fancy” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
A few of us were late to the Hammersmith Odeon, London - Nov 5th bonfire night 1975. The car had broken down in Bow rd.
We had front row circle seats.
Up the stairs, and the usher opened the doors for us, just as the opening bars of “Saturday Night Special” were ringing out. The volume was staggering, but crystal-clear. It was awesome. All 3 guitars working together like magic.
What a gig.
30-minute encore version of “Freebird”, and people were letting off fireworks at the back!
I bought the album next day.

I can't swear to this, but I think it was years ago when I lived in South Jersey in a little new and used record store chain, I think three stores, and I believe it was Laura Mvula with her breakout album and song, Sing to the Moon.  My current go to store is Get Hip Records in Pittsburgh.  Greg is a punk rock freak who still tours with his punk band so I never buy anything he's playing.  He's got a great selection of all genres of LPs and CDs, so I can always find something he's not playing.

Just walking down the street in the '90s and this mesmerizing music was being played outside a record store, the title track, as I recall. It totally captured me, like pure sorcery. I dropped what I was doing and went in. I listened to the whole thing and bought it. Still love it. "Tutu" translates as "cool", in addition to the name of Desmond Tutu. Right on the money, and then some.
Marcus Miller production, maybe not for jazz purists, but it rings my bell as much as any of Miles' work. The man was always searching....

Amazing!  As a 12 yr old I was walking through Sears (in a mall) with my parents and that LP was playing on one of those small console stereos just off the walkway.  They let me stay and listen while they shopped.  A salesman took note of my interest and flipped to side 2 for me.  I've been an Airplane/Starship fan ever since.
