Bedini Dual Beam Clarifier, what is it?
« on: 13 Nov 2004, 08:26 pm »
I see references to this device and the "Jr." version routinely on the net. What is it? Perhaps if i could see the pictures of it better i could tell, but I just can't figure out what this device is supposed to do, and how one is supposed to use it.

Thanks.

John Castler just posted a review

I don't know how exactly it works, and frankly don't really care.  Mechanically speaking, you open the lid, place the CD on the spindle, and push a button.  The CD spins for awhile around 20 seconds, i believe, during which the "beams" "clarify" the disc, whatever that means.  Then you take the CD to your CDP.

Thanks for the clarification of the Clarifier. I guess I'll try to find out what it's supposed to do to improve the sound, but I must admit to being very, very skeptical.

So John, do you have any follow-up thoughts on your Clarifier?

I generally agree with what John Castler is saying.  I would just add this caveat (most tweaks have the darn caveats!).

In systems/rooms with right amount or bit much bass, the Bedini cleans up bloat and fuzziness from bass to low-midrange area, really making things sound cleaner and clearer and smoother.

If your system/room is on the bass-lean side already, you CAN end up with smidgen leaner low-midrange to bass, resulting in less warm/bloomy sound.  Other ranges still benefit, though. So, YMMV as usual.
