bdp-2 stuck on boot up
« on: 11 Sep 2016, 11:22 pm »
I have a bdp-2 which i just bought in june. I use it 2 to 3 times a week and turn it off each time i finish using it.  Today when i turned it on it was stuck on the stage after loading mpd and the screen says cleaning up. I left it on for more than 1/2 hour to see if it is actually is cleaning something up but no luck. I unplugged it for 30 seconds and tried turning it on again but stuck at the same spot. Does anyone have any ideas? I had a bdp-1 (serial number 29) for years and never had a  problem with it.

Hi,

Is the hard drive connected to the BDP-2? I always have to disconnect otherwise I have a problem in the start up sequence.

Good luck.

I have an hard drive dock with it's own power supply. I don't turn on the hard drive until the boot up sequence has been completed. I have had no problems in the past with the bdp-1 and 2 when it was working properly. Thanks for the sugestion though.

Hi alinto,

I had exactly the same issue when I was starting up my bdp-2 on Sunday.  I turned it off and started up again and it booted up fine.  See the  thread "Unable to start services on BDP-2."   I have a feeling our issue was due to the same cause. Somehow I think the bdp-2 tries to make a connection to Bryston servers during boot up if it is connected to the internet, and yesterday it could not as the Bryston server was down apparently.

The bdp-2 turned on normally today. I don't know why the bdp-2 needs to access the bryston server before turning on. If this is the case , bryston should fix this.

^ That is bizarre. Always thought BDP-x operations were self-contained, not externalized.

Maybe Bryston is NSA code for BIG BROTHER....  :o

the BDP checks for a newer firmware version on boot. It a,so needs the connection for the Service mode, so check if thats enabled.
Bryston server outage shouldn't prevent the BDP from booting up though... Especially considering the man cave option, which is what the BDP was designed for in the first place?
Maybe something else is going wrong.
