Danny suggested a "solid wood panel" to give this Skinny 6's guy more "body mass" and we complied. The guys here found a nice piece of 25mm "Granadillo" AKA Macawood/Amazon Rosewood/Macacuba,etc.. Is used to manufacture musical instruments due to its "tone"

Any ways, is a really super-hard wood, difficult to work with.
The base was cut from the same piece.
To my eyes is looking good but if I were to make another pair I would use a less thick piece and will give the piece a more "organic" shape with more rounded ends. Also, I would cut the wood in a "wedge" shape starting very thin at the front and increasing its thickness at the end.

Rubber (6) discs were used to avoid vibrations.

Almost ready for loading.
I'm planning to finish loading and take this home tonight. They weight a lot with the wood panel.

Those look terrific!! Your workmanship is impeccable, even as you are dreaming up "new and improved" ways of doing things.

I hope these inspire more people to put together their own -- it would be great to see more pairs of Skinnys out in the wild....

+1 on that. If I was able to do anything like that or even artwork it would be great. If I did artwork, the only appropriate place would be on the fridge held on by a magnet (and even that is being generous).

Well, the X-Kinnys are alive and singing. After only one hour of non critical listening powered by a cheap digital amp, an Apple Mac and a Halide DAC I have to say HATS OFF to Señor Daniel Rico (Danny Ritchie). These little fellows can reproduce voices naturally and I can only dream about the future...

I placed them too far away from the back wall so bass is sort of shy but musical.
And gave me a good laugh when I suggested a friend earlier today to perform the "knock test" before telling them that the panel is 2" real hard wood. :green:He probably is still rubbing his knuckles.

Again, thanks Danny for a really fun loudspeaker!. The wife loves them, of course.

Yes!! Definitively image is spectacular. They project a deep, layered music reproduction that is beautiful.
My idea was to let them break-in with a basic gear for 2-3 days but I can't wait. Today I'll use a Creek amp, Dodd pre-amp and the same Mac computer and the Halide DAC.
And perhaps I'll take them later this week to a friend's house that has a great system, much better that the basic I have.
Reports will follow but I don't need to wait until they are fully broke-in to say that they are wonderful and that perhaps I'll be building another pair for more people around here. (One at a time, of course).

The Skinny 6 and Flat 5 are on my short list to build for myself, actually for my wife's second HT system (she works out of town during the week and rents an apartment). Her current speakers are no slouch (N1-Xs with upgraded crossovers, cheer veneer and French polish finish) so I have not been in a big hurry but I do want to build this system.

I really like what you did with the solid wood. Think I'll steal that idea

When you said more organic lines, what were you thinking?
