Hi,

I just joined the forum though I have read posts here off and on for several years. Hope to be to become a full-fledged member soon.

I'm an old audio fan who has never had a big disposable income, which makes me quite bargain-conscious. I'm fairly happy with my audio set-up but have been shopping around for a possible speaker replacement. Looking forward to some discussions  :)

Welcome!

Have you considered active speakers?  Overall cheaper, smaller, more dynamic, and lots of bass per cubic foot of cabinet size.  Most found at Guitar Center would only make for good "computer speakers" but the JBL LSR 305's are a definite step up ($300/pair MSRP, F3 = 41 Hz, small 2-way design).  Add a $500 Schiit Jotunheim preamp with upgradable DAC and inexpensive XLR cables and you'd have a killer little system that could fit desktop or fill a small room.

A sonic/price step up from the JBL's I've found is the Dynaudio BM5 Mk III's (see my review in the Critic's Circle).
