I have interconnected a computer, video player, stereo and projector together since the Hi-Fi VCR days. But those days are long gone: "
40 years after the first VHS video cassette recorder rolled off the production line, the last known company making the devices is ceasing production. According to Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Funai Electric, a Japanese consumer electronics company, will give up on the format by the end of the July after 30 years of production."
The one component that has made this possible is a control center, currently I use an Outlaw 975. Audio and video can be configured no matter how your system evolves. My audio goes to an AVA pre-amp for the front 2 channels and an AVA 3-channel amp for the center and surrounds. Video can be either TV, Blu-ray or computer. I also stream podcasts from the computer --> Outlaw 975 --> Stereo while cleaning on Saturday.
The computer is hardwired to the Outlaw with HDMI so I can use the dual screen function of the ATI video card. I sit on my couch with a mouse and navigate Netflix or the internet to watch an excellent
Independent Lens documentary.
You can also stream HDMI wirelessly but I have not tried it.
Still clunky but the laptop is now connected to only one device and you have remote control volume and mute if your pre-amp is minimal like mine.
