Who to use in N Atlanta...newbie question.
« on: 11 Nov 2004, 07:10 pm »
I'm building a new house far North Fulton county and wonder who you guys in this area use for home vidio and stereo advice and sales.  I will be looking for someone with good high-end inventory and at least reasonable prices.  Also will buy 3-4 large screen (1 large and 3-4 35" range) TVs.  I need to find someone within the next 30 days or so.

I will keep my Krell amp and AR pre-amp but will finally be able to get some great speakers without worrying about the WAF.  Will be ready to wire in Jan. 05.  Thanks in advance.

You might want to contact Brian at  Rutledge Audio Design.  he's in Rutledge, GA and does a lot of custom work, is honest, and reasonable.  I don't know if he carries all the gear you want but may be able to help you put something together.  Just a thought.

You probably heard of Tweeter or HifiBuys.  I know they have a showroom near NorthLake mall in Dekalb County.  I have been to the one in Buckhead.  Not sure if they have one near GA400.

They have one on Hwy 9, Roswell Rd in Roswell too.  I'm not too crazy about them.  They don't carry Martin Logan, etc.

Yeah, I know.  I won't blame you.  Have you been to Oade Brothers? They are located in Thomasville.  http://www.oade.com/

Audio-Video Alternative in Lilburn - my experience with these guys many years ago (before the 'Video' got attached to the name) was positive, and I am sure it is still under the same management. Literally a mom-and-pop shop (m and p work there every day) but with a decent staff. May still be heavily biased towards audio but give them a call and see how they do in answer to carefully chosen questions.

I was under the impression HiFi Buys in Roswell DOES have Martin Logan - they did the last time I was there, maybe a month ago. Bunch of morons though.

I am sure there are also several smaller shops. Go to Borders/Barnes and pick up a copy of the mag - I think it is called "Audio-Video Interiors". In the back of the mag they have listings of dealers who carry the equipment advertised in the mag. Not the full answer but it's a start.

Also try two other stores who I have not bought from yet but seem to have good inventory: Georgia Home Theater - Hwy 41 and 285, and Evolution Home Theater in Gwinnett.  See Travis at GHT and Isaac at EHT. Not buds of mine but they were ok in my experience. YMMV.

I agree that you may want to talk to Doug Oade at Oade Brothers. They consistently have the best prices I've ever seen on the products they carry. Their prices are even better than the boiler-room operations you see on the web AND they are authorized dealers and have a real B&M store. www.oade.com

You might also want to talk to Walter Lieberman at Underwood Hi-Fi in Roswell. Walter is "Underwoodwally" on AudiogoN. He generally has good stuff and good prices. http://www.underwoodhifi.com/

Enjoy,

I'm a very satisfied customer of both of the above.

I got my fill of fooling aroung with idiots and just bit the bullet and bought Wilson Sophias from Atlanta Home Theater.  Got a good deal on a used Krell CD player too!  The Martin Logan dealer, supposedly some kind of full line dealer, didn't even have the pair I wanted to hear.  AVI on McFarland had the MacIntosh stuff I wanted but was too busy having a MacIntosh in-house training day to let me hear their stuff.  They kissed $100K goodbye.
