does it count as C&C if you recycle unused gear?

When I had Maggies, I bought a Mirage sub with dual 8" dipole speakers, thinking.....oh small drivers will be quick and keep up. Well, frankly it just wasn't much. So sat unused for years. When I put together my computer audio (see Lepai amp thread) I lugged it down and hooked it up. Big fun. This rig isn't about absolute sound.....its about having fun. And I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Sub works just fine for this app.  :icon_lol:

I think it was $800ish when I bought, which doesn't count if new

Rig is latest macbook pro (or maybe my Galaxy mini tablet)>Lepai T-amp>Onix Ref1 Mk2 monitors and now Mirage sub.

Only possibly if the current average selling price of the gear being put into use is within the C&C dollar limits. Otherwise it is C&C for you but not for me.

saw one for sale for $200 plus shipping.

I suppose the one thing in the system that doesn't count in the Macbook Pro. However the Galaxy tablet was free with new iPhone purchase, and to my ears it actually sounds better!

I think the best part of a C&C system (besides the obvious) is the end of expectations. No more listening for the flaws, but just relaxing & enjoying the movie or the music.

cheers to all.

Doublej has a good point, current value would be easy to determine with an eBay or Agon search.  The other side of it, if you're strictly referring to your system, would be that you've amortized the cost over something like 5 years and it can now be referred to as, "Honey, look what I found in the closet."  What do you guys think?

I think opening up C&C to used equipment will create controversy as how would the value be determined? If you amortize the cost of a  McIntosh MC240 that had a list price of $288 in 1960 this piece would be essentially worth nothing today! However, the real world market dictates this unit can command anywhere from $1500- $3000 today.
Some would argue that amortizing original price is best, and others would argue that current value is more accurate, but the current value is heavily determined by condition/availability. There are just too many variables. I think C&C is more about discovery of inexpensive; great performing products that are currently available to everyone, not about good used equipment that has limited availability.
