This was a tough one. The original is in my top ten of all time, maybe top 5, so it's hard to be objective.  First off, the cast is EXCELLENT. Great casting. Each of the leads brings something unique to their role equating to the sum being greater than its parts. McKinnon in particular just gets more and more interesting as the film goes on. She may be my favorite of the team (okay, no, that would be Wiig because she's always amazing). There's great chemistry and I am excited to see all of them in future installments.

Including Chris Hemsworth. Because Hemsworth STEALS THE GODDAMN MOVIE. He is the single funniest part of the movie. It's almost worth seeing it for his performance alone.

So yeah. GREAT cast.

The plot sucks. Or not even the plot, just kind of the overall pacing and structure. The core plot about some internet pimpleboy gamergater lookin dude with delusions of otherworldy grandeur is a giant middle finger to the same detractors who frothed at the mouth at the idea of an all woman Ghostbusters. So kudos to that storyline. It's just that the film kind of meanders to get there. Again, this is where the original is pure genius so hard to be fair in that regard.

I would call it a rental, but also a fun summer flick if you have the time.

I'm on the fence. The reviews are good but I have a confession to make...I really didn't love the original.  Don't get me wrong- the cast was lightning in a bottle, a bunch of the best comedic actors in the world all at the peak of their powers.  Bill Murray is one of my all-time favorite actors, too.  But I'd much rather watch Groundhog's Day.  I didn't like the plot nor the mix of silly with "horror".  Overall I can't say I hated it but I've never had the urge to watch it again (last time was 25 years ago or so).

If you didn't care for the original, you probably won't care for this one.

I saw the original in NYC when it came out at the perfect age to be wowed by spielberg/lucas, et al. I would stay up late Friday nights to watch the Ray Parker Jr video on whatever 'Friday Night Video' show was playing on TV. My godmother lives just a few blocks away from the 'Zool Towers'. So GB holds a special place in my heart.

Well sounds like you are due to give it another try!

I like the originals.

This new one? Well put it to you this way... If the same week I also later paid $15 to watch an episode of The Brady Bunch I would've felt like I robbed a bank.
