Hi Guys,

I have a perpetual technologies p1a and p3a (modwright which is currently being upgraded from level 1 to level 2 status) dac and i use a stock marantz cd 4000 cdp

I am thinking of purchasing a tentclock xo3 clock which also has a spdif circuit for the digital coaxial output incorporated in its design.

I want to use the marantz cdp as a transport only and i would like to know if anyone has used the tentlabs clock specifically with a dac and whether it improved the sound of cd playback.

Regards

Rod

Hi Rod, do you mean Tentlabs?  :o  I had an XO3 clock from LClock installed on my Music Hall CD-25 along with other mods of the digital output and had a nice increase in the 3 dimensional soundfield from my CD's. A very nice spacial presentation of the different instruments in a jazz group was realized from this upgrade. Money well spent, imho. I've never heard of Tentlabs or their XO3 clock but if it duplicates LClock's XO3, go for it Rod!  :D  Regards, Robin

Hi Robin,

Thanks for your reply.  Tentlabs is a european based clock manufacturer run by Guido Tent and is probably a similiar product to what you have.

[quoteXO3 is intended to be used when external DACs are connected. XO3 is equal to XO2, but contains an additional reclocking circuit for the digital output (SPDIF). This circuit reduces the jitter at that output. The incoming jitter at the DAC will be lower, resulting in better sound. XO3 can be used in conjunction with XO-DAC.

I have replaced my stock marantz cd4000 with my modified pioneer pds507 (g&d clock modification) and it definitely isn't as good as my pt combination.

Gee, sorry to hear that Rod, maybe  it just needs more breakin time? I have no experience in DAC's so I can't even offer an uneducated opinion. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in? Regards, Robin

No direct experience but the Tent Clock is used as part of the very well-regarded $2,500 mod that John Tucker / Exemplar does on the Denon 2900.

Hi Robin,

Nothing to be sorry about.  My pioneer is the previous cdp that i used prior to buying my perpetual technologies combination.

The pionear does not have digital coaxial out and that is why i bought the marantz cdp.

Looks like i will try the tentlabs clock.

regards

HI, I use the XO3 in my Sony CDP X77ES but for use with the internal DAC only. I had posted my experiences on HD but that seems to be gone today (have not checked in in the past 6 months or so).

Generally, I am very happy with the results. I may have time for a more detailed description later.

Groeten,

i have tent's xo3 installed into my marantz 6000ose (using its internal dac) - noticeable improvement
i'd also recommend addind seperate power supply for the clock only - in my case (it was done 2 month after the clock mod) this cleaned up the highs considerably

Does anyone know a good Dutch to English translator?

Here is a review from a Dutch magazine that I can't read. May be someone can translate this and post:

yes, me.

After a quick read of the article:

- replacement clocks are worthwhile investments in older CDP with a solid mechanism like VRDS, Pioneer Stable Platter etc. They can then be used to very good effect with an external DAC
- In a sidebar is a discussion on upgrading the clock in pretty much any CDP for use with the internal DAC. This is recommended. (I personally have a very old Sony ES that I still like better than my Denon 2900)
- Installation is somewhat involved but there is help available.

Does that help?
