I didn't want to hi-jack the "Just saw Fight Club" thread, but as a fan of these kinds of "mental/emotional/psychological" twisters, I wanted to mention a couple of other movies that, while not as "mainstream" as Fight Club, I felt did an excellent job...

-Jacob's Ladder
-Lost Highway
-Mulholland Drive (can you tell I'm a David Lynch fan?)
-Sixth Sense (ok, this one qualifies as "mainstream")

Any others people recommend?  Any thoughts about the above movies?

I didn't understand Mulholland Drive.  Really.

Could you explain it or post a link to an explanation.  I think it might be a good movie but it also might just be a movie that makes no sense.

The first half of the movie was the blond girl's fantasie (has a beautiful, glamorous lover, big success in hollywood, etc).  The 2nd have is the harsh reality of her situation breaking through, leading up to her eventual suicide.

Jacob's Ladder-  Loved that one, although I haven't seen it in awhile.  Hmmm, I don't have that one on DVD yet...

Mulholland Drive-  Bit fan of Naomi Watts topless, but I thought the movie was low rent & manipulative.  Overly clever at the expense of intelligence.

Sixth Sense-  Liked this one a lot, too.  I though Willis was good, Haley was amazing, very good story.  For the record, I didn't realize "the twist" til 15 minutes from the end.  I will say, though, that I felt Unbreakable was much better.

Of films in the same general style (ie confusing! ) I highly recommend Donnie Darko.  Definately very cool, and really twisted.  I also liked Eye of the Beholder," with Ashely Judd & Ewen McGreggor.

I was only coming up with The Others to add to the list. Don't know why I didn't think of Darko?

I'm going to have to agree to disagree on Eye Of The Beholder. Saw it in the theaters and thought it to be a steaming pile...

As far as Mulholland Drive goes, it wasn't originally supposed to make sense. It was a pilot for a TV series. But whomever it was shot for (one of the big 3) deemed it unacceptable for TV.

So Lynch added what's now the last 30 minutes or so, and the earlier sex scene between Watts & Herring and released it as a stand alone movie.

So who knows if it would've ever made sense had a season or two's (or more?) worth of hour long shows would have made it any easier to decipher...
