FS: Bent Audio TAP-X (fully balanced) $2500
« on: 27 May 2016, 01:41 pm »
Up for sale is my John Chapman built TAP-X in the black shallow chassis.  I approached him at RMAF years ago about this concept of balanced and SE automatically switching and he delivered a few months later.  It's the best pre I've ever had in my system.  Total changes to my listening space require that I move to something simple and this unit sitting in a box isn't right.  Remote included.

$2500 shipped in the USA

Some questions...

This one provide the 7db of gain?
Convert balanced to unbalanced?
Is balanced input ground floating on the transformers?

Thanks!

yes, +7db

Doesn't convert but it does accept SE or Balanced and automatically switches between them.

It is an autoformer (1 winding with taps), not a transformer (2 windings, primary and secondary), so signal ground would just pass through input to output directly.

Really surprised you haven't sold it yet!  They don't come up often and balanced is significantly more expensive than the single ended only version.   I myself have the balanced version that I am putting a K&K Raleigh balanced tube stage into.

but it is also that much more flexible.  Worth it in my opinion unless you have a single ended only system.

That's for sure!  And absolutely incredible sonically.

These are the measurements of this exact unit.  It doesn't get any better than this.

You say autoformer here, but the pic of the rear says TVC... ?

Is this the silver or copper version?

I finally spent hours/additional  time this weekend comparing LIO AVC with TAP-X (before I update my LIO finally this week with DHT ) and guys this was quite a close comparison - for the price getting TAP is a no-brainer.

+ OP/Seller takes great care of equipment :thumb: so bump for his listing.

regards,
Kishore

Will be interested to hear what you think the DHT upgrade adds. Is your LIO also a DAC?

You might want to try WBF too? You can't even buy these anymore, and at this price it's very, very, cheap relative to performance for anything on the market.
