Can the 8-track be far behind?

At least in the US, sales of cassettes are not a major item -
http://247wallst.com/media/2016/03/28/us-2015-recorded-music-sales-total-7-billion-on-streaming-growth/
a slightly older article on cassettes -
http://www.newsweek.com/cassettes-273066
"Here’s the tricky thing: in small but significant corners, the format never left. Decades past its commercial prime, the sad little cassette, with its tiny-font labels and twisting tapes, has remained popular in punk and noise communities. That makes sense. The cheap manufacturing costs mesh well with DIY ethics, while tinny sound quality isn’t such a barrier for hardcore music that thrives on low production values and high compression.

If Nakamichi gets back into the game I'll get on board but 8 tracks, ugh!

A couple of years ago I sold a really nice Pioneer 3 head deck to a guy who was more than ecstatic to get it. So I guess they still have their place.

I owned a Nakamichi 680 at one point (and also a really nice Pioneer deck).
