Checkin' in from Minn.

Long time lurker - first time poster.

I thought I'd post since the Axpona coverage has been reminding me of my trip last year. It attended Axpona 2015; it was a great event. I was a total newbie to the audio conventions, but felt very welcome in every room. I warmed up to the event very quickly - however, I was thoroughly exhausted after 1.5 days.

My current audio setup consists of a Systemdek IIX turntable, 90's British electronics, [relatively] modern DACs, and DIY speakers - GR Research and North Creek Music.

I do want to get into the DIY electronics side of things because I think that I handle a soldering iron and oscilloscope better than an table saw and router.

I only have one set of speakers that I would consider presentable. The rest of the speakers fall into the category of "DIY MDF Special".

That is one of the pitfalls of DIY speakers. I end up with the drivers on hand, crossovers built, and cabinets assembled but not entirely finished. The next logical step is to wire things up to hear how they sound. Three year later, I have the speakers fully broken-in and a roll of veneer in the closet.

Try fullrange drivers they dont need xover or biding posts in baltic birch plywood as Visaton B200 in a 100L sealed box or for a special sound Alnico magnet:

I was hesitant to type the cr*%^over word when I was composing that post, but I am glad I got this response.

I have definitely considered full-range drivers; I have just never pulled the trigger. That's what's great about this hobby. I still have full range drivers to explore - not to mention open baffle, class A, tubes, MC cartridges, multiple subs, etc- all the while I get to listen to good music.

Hi, Curtis.

Welcome to AC!

Way back in ancient times (late Seventies/early Eighties) I lived in Rochester.
