If you have been sitting on the fence about seeing Ray, get off the fence and head to the show. My wife and I saw this today and loved it. For me this was the best film I've seen all year. Great story, outstanding performances and of course a killer soundtrack. Two thumbs way, way up.  :thumb:  :thumb:

Haven't seen the movie yet, but did pick up the new soundtrack "Ray"
which is very good, especially the live version of "Georgia On My Mind"

I've wondered about this one.  From what I've heard, Jamie Foxx gives an inspired performance as Ray Charles, and I've admired his work in several movies.  Unfortunately I couldn't keep my lunch down while enduring 2 hrs of Charle's music.

Rob,

Jamie Foxx does an excellent job as does the rest of the cast.

I suppose it wouldn't be much fun if you really dislike his music. Somehow it didn't occur to me that there are folks who really dislike Ray Charles. Of course it shouldn't be suprising but  the possibility didn't even cross my mind.

"Ray" looks to be a big box office film. As a footnote...bootleg DVD copies are out already...can you believe it !! Some guy hawking them yesterday on the streets of NYC. Had his portable DVD player showing the quality of the copy. Man ! these guys work fast !! :?

Watched the movie tonight.
Best 2 hours 33 minutes I ever spent watching a movie...

I loved the music...
And I thought Jamie Fox was impressive playing the lead character.

Makes me wish I attended one of Ray's "live" performances.

Exellent movie! I took the wife and kids Saturday and we all loved it. Getting my kids interested in any kind of music besides what's currently hip is a major achievement.

Ray's story of triumph over the adversity of being poor, southern black and blind is refreshing in today's world of overnight superstars and faulty voice tracks that get blamed on the band.

The movie is objective in that it doesn't lionize him. We get a picture of Ray as a human being with faults, who tries to overcome them. Highly recommended!

WOW!!!

I just saw this tonight and was blown away.

The only performance that is as close to portraying a musical legend is Gary Busey as Buddy Holly, but even Gary does not do as good a job as Jamie.

I WAS watching a young Ray Charles.  Jamie deserves all the accolades he is getting.

As Mike mentioned, if your on the fence on watching this, get down and give it a view.

Rob....I think you would be shocked at how cool some of Ray's music was....he was called a saten for turning gospel into (sexual) R&B.

Also most of the movie is his fighting inner deamons, mostly caused by him watching his brother drown and even though he could have easily saved him, he didn't...

He uses Sex and drugs to fight the deamons....lots of both....

Even if you don't like his music, I don't see how anyone could not like this movie.

Damn what a great movie!!!!

Agreed!  We loved this movie...and the music and sound quality was unbelieavable.  My wife especially liked how the music helped tell the story; it was usd to set the tone for his next chapter in his life.  And we didn't really know or care for much of his music up until seeing the film......great job acting, directing, the whole deal.

I recently purchased The Very Best of Ray Charles (only $10, too), and it's outstanding. Much better, in my opinion, than Genius Loves Company.  I can see why Ray was held in such high esteem.  I need to see the movie, now.

While I enjoyed the movie very much, I still can't get into the man's music.  It doesn't suck, I just never want to put it on.  After seeing the movie, I found several LP's at the used vinyl resellers that were cheap and brought them home and cleaned them and wanted to like them but I just can't get into them.

I ended up liking the movie and his music.  And this is from a guy whose teen/college years were filled with Black Sabbath, Ozzie, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio, etc.
