I'm a serial lurker on these boards, but would like to start contributing a bit to add to the body of knowledge here that's been incredibly helpful to me over the years. I started really getting into this hobby in grad school, haggling over a NAD 370 integrated and Paradigm Reference 40s, which I really couldn't afford. Since then I've sold, bought, added and agonized over a variety of equipment.
Generally I'm a fan of high efficiency speakers paired with well-built low to medium wattage amps. I have 3 systems (primary, secondary, and desktop) and like to have each one highlight a different philosophy (tube vs. solid state, planar vs. standard box versus Omni, vinyl vs. digital, etc.) since I think all designs have their pluses and minuses.
