Does OPPO BDP-95 need a preamp
« on: 22 Mar 2016, 01:25 am »
Hi all,

My main system is an OPPO BDP-95 into an Audible Illusions M3A into an Aragon 8008bb into B&W N803 speakers. I've been able to use the OPPO remote to adjust the volume via the OPPO while not changing anything at the M3A preamp. Does that mean a preamp is not needed between the OPPO and Aragon amp?

Thanks,
henrylr

Go ahead and plug the Oppo into Aragon and listen for a while and let your ears tell you. They are the best meters in your room.
I have a friend who has the Oppo 95 direct into a 300b amp and the result sounds awesome. But I had the Oppo 95 and bypassed the preamp section of a tube integrated with poor results. Put it into the pre section and the sound greatly improved!
So....YMMV

Thanks for the replies. I bought the Aragon and M3A before I owned the OPPO. I bought the M3A for it's tubes. I think the M3A with the Aragon is a very good combination. I think I'll keep the M3A between the OPPO and Aragon.
