Hello to all, I am Tim from NYC. I have a terrible case of gear-o-philia, especially the interesting stuff from Japan of the 80's and 90's.
That being said, my introduction to this hobby came about as a result of my neighbor, who had Mitsubishi separates DA-A 30 with the DA-M 30 meter, and the DA-P 30, a Sony PS-X 50 along with the ADS L-810 mk2. I was a junior high kid, so the first large scale orchestral works I heard on it were pretty amazing to say the least. Well that set me off to the garage sale circuit with my sister (who could drive). My first $5 rig was a Readers Digest record player with 2 full range speaks and an aux input. Meager but it was mine and I loved it. Modded the speakers with trusty Radio Shack drivers, found it sounded better. From there, myriad components and speakers came past me, 30 years later I still get "that feeling" when I am able to purchase or trade for new to me gear, (i.e. The speakers in the pic.) Let's trade stories and have a bourbon in front of our respective systems together.
