JVC RX-F10 power inlet mod

I was sent a JVC RX-F10 to see what I could come up with for simple mods.

Other than replacing the stock power cable with an IEC there is not much that can be done to this receiver, easily.

The digital I/O board is right on top of the speaker connectors. There really is very little room to work inside.

For now, the only mod I will offer is the power inlet. $85.00 plus shipping.

Cool, thanks for the info - have you had a look at the "baby brother" the 5.1 ES-1?

Wayne,

I'm curious as to the benefit of changing to an IEC instead of a DVD/cloverleaf outlet.  Are you tying the neutral and ground wire together or grounding to the chassis? Is there any ill effects of grounding to the chassis with such a consumer product?  Is it just so you can use an audiophile cord?

I have been tinkering with my Panny SAXR10 and not sure if I want to mod out the outlet or not, been kinda leaning towards putting a switch next to the IEC outlet for lifting the ground or grounding it to see which is better.

Josh,

The main benefit is to get rid of the stock power cable. The thin wire, parallel run does hold back the potential of the receiver. The IECs I use, Furutech Gold or Rhodium plated or ACME Silver Plated, all are rated for higher current flow than the figure 8 connector. The DVD type connector is made from tin plated steel. The IECs are all plated over brass or bronze. Both of which sound better than the tin plated steel.

I do not ground the chassis to the IEC. None of the receivers (JVC or Panny) are designed with that in mind. The ground connections are floating and I do not believe it is a good idea to tie them togehter.

Thanks Wayne!  I would have to agree with you then on the benefits.  Definitely worth doing for the power delivery.

in addition to the benefits already mentioned, generally the conection between the stock cord and plug aren't nearly as good as aftermaket cables. the better conection will sound better.
