Looking at more tube rolling options for my deHavilland UltraVerve!

I have been on a tube rolling binge since I spoke with the designer about other variants of rectifiers that can be used in this preamp.

So chime in with your favorites and send me along that path of more good sounds

So far I have used a CBS Hytron 5aw4. My standby Delco with the upside down V
A Mullard GZ37. The nice Cossor Mullard labeled GZ33

I would like to hear more about the Emission Labs 5U4G and the Tung Sol

I'm able to run GZ 33,34,and 37. 5au4 5aw4. 

Any thoughts or experiences appreciated.  My system components is listed in the signature link.

The EML 5U4G is a decent rectifier tube. It was bested in my system only by the U52/U50 variants. It is transparent and renders bass deep and tight. It is not as finessed on the top end as the better rectifier tubes.


It's probably the most beautiful looking tube.
