Audiophile vs. Studio Subwoofers

Lots written about the differences between speakers built for home use vs. studio use but what about subwoofers? Any difference in design approach between those catering to the home market vs. those catering for studio folks?

From my little bit of research, pro subs are much more conservatively rated, much more heavily built, and are way more expensive.

Since studio monitors typically have good bass response and are used in small rooms there is limited use as trained ears can extrapolate the deep bass from most music so there is little need for them.

Recommend "Sound-on-Sound" for good concise reviews of professional speaker/subwoofer.
