Introduction

I love music (most genres).  I listen mainly to CD's, but also occasionally clean off an album to spin.  I have always wanted my music to sound as close to what an engineer or producer might have heard through their monitors.  I realize that many times they assumed I would be listening in my car through a single speaker and mixed with that in mind (Phil Spector). Many years ago as a subscriber to Audio Critic, I read about equipment that was desirable, but beyond my financial means.  I finally was able to purchase the Bryston BP-26P pre-amplifier.  I hope to learn about other Bryston products by joining this forum.

If you really want to hear what it sounds like in the studio, pull up to a desk facing a wall and plug that Bryston into active studio monitors (with tweeters set to ear level).  Neuman KH120 are very good for $1500/pair, but JBL 305's aren't too bad at $300/pair.

But be warned, studio monitors are designed to be more accurate than entertaining, to work best from a very tight near-field setting, and to reveal the warts.  As such they can be dry and fatiguing.
