AMT Tweeter vs True Ribbon Tweeters?
« on: 22 Feb 2016, 02:31 am »
As the popularity of AMT Tweeters increases, I was wondering what are the sonic differences vs True Ribbon Tweeters? I would assume they would be a lot less fragile, however I always liked the wide dispersion of my 3.6's tweeter. Plus its other attributes like less energy storage, and of course they are dipole/line sources.

The large AMT is operating from a lower frequncy and upwards. I like that. In the way the Magnepan ribbon tweeter is implemented, there is a problem integrating it with the midrange driver. In the Magnepan 3.7 it seems they raised the crossover frequency in order to make the driver integration less obvious.  The midrange driver is doing more of the work than in the earlier 3.6. Sure, a true midrange ribbon similar to the Apogee would have been fine...
