LGK built sealed?
« on: 19 Feb 2016, 06:58 pm »
Hi all,

Thinking of building the LGKs in sealed cabinets and pair with a small sub for low/medium listening levels.  Main objective is to make the cabinets more compact as desk real estate is a bit tight.  Also, having the port firing directly against the wall would suck.  I do understand I'd be giving up some low end extension.

I tried modeling up the driver in WinISD, but I'm getting kinda funky volume values.

I was hoping that someone (Danny  :D) could provide some insight into any potential overall caveats/recommended cabinet volume for going sealed with the LGKs.

Thanks!

Limited desk space or not it still has to be 4.5" wide. Going to a sealed box just reduces its height. But it needs the height to get it up to ear level.

Optimal sealed is .04 cubic feet of air space and the -3db is 146Hz. In a sealed box it is a bit of a stretch to reach a sub.

In the ported box that comes with the kit the port tunes it to 90Hz and hits a -3db in the upper 70's. The port is also a lot bigger around than it needs to be and then has to be fairly long as well. The bonus for having a large port is no port noise at all. Even pushing it up close to a wall doesn't cause a problem. And with the ported box they easily play low enough to reach a sub.
