I developed a hankering for unrestricted dynamics and high output capability. I'm thinking horns, waveguides, compression drivers. I listened to the Klipsch Cornwall iii and they are really fun.

They are really big, but the wife says no problem if they stay downstairs--never in the living room. I probably wouldn't need my sub: ACI Titan XL.

I'm also considering JTR Speakers single 8 HT with subs. I wonder if I can run them full range or do I need to buy an electronic x-over to keep the bass out of them for best results. The problem is that good electronic crossover from marchand, jl audio, or bryston isn't cheap. The Noesis 210 RT might work, but that might be too much flat black paint in big utilitarian boxes. They are taller than the Cornwalls, and I don't think I can hear them anywhere.

The room is about 17 x 25 with a 7.5 foot ceiling, but the listening spot is closer due to a (F%#&ing) support beam in the middle of the room.

Your ideas for alternatives are welcomed.

You just perfectly described Spatial M3/4 speakers. I own the 4s...they are wonderful, fun, and in your price range.

The Cornwall III is Heresey with a 15.... They share the same mid horn. The Cornwall II from 1985 or so, with the round terminal cup on the back are the ones you want. The larger midrange horn is allot better sounding IMO.

The Heresy is a Sealed Box, hence the name.
I suggest the Forte, passive radiator on back
I like think it as a OB.Better than Bass Reflex.

It is probably the least expensive option and great fun! There are a ton of reviews on the website.

The JBL synthesis 4367 looks pretty amazing, but I'm pretty sure they are out of my income category. The Synthesis 1400 array might work, but I gotta say I'm not crazy about the looks.

I should have mentioned that my son and I are building the smallest Fusion kit from diysoundgroup , the "vibe" for his bedroom. When that build gets going I will start a new thread. I would definitely consider one of the bigger kits, but I'm not confident in my skills at making the cabinets, especially larger ones, look presentable. I will soon find out. It's also hard to commit to a bigger diy project without hearing it first.

Without any prior experience they turned out quite nice. However, we used only a Duratex finish. With the experience of building the smaller speaker first you should be in good shape to attempt a bigger kit.
I agree that it is a difficult decision without having heard the speaker first.

That fusion 8 turned out really nice  The Spatial m3 seems like it could be the winner, but I anticipate a hard time keeping them far enough from the front wall with my setup.
I was thinking: The front wall does have a ledge across it where the JBL LSR6332 could sit in their sideways configuration just about perfectly. On paper that looks like great speaker.

Two things to keep in mind: 1) since there is no cabinet, the speaker takes up little space front to back....so make sure you factor that in your estimates of how much room you need; and 2)You can always "store" them (for non critical listening) near the wall, then pull them out for listening sessions. That's what I do...works like a charm.
