CD player died - need help
« on: 25 Oct 2004, 07:49 pm »
I have a Rotel RCD-975 player that just stopped working this weekend.  It was purchased new in 1997.

It had been working fine with no previous problems.  In fact had been listening to it just 2 nights prior.  Turned it on Saturday night, the drawer opened, I inserted a disc and closed it.  It started to spin the disc to read it, then "error" came up on the display.  Similar to when a disc is inserted un-centered in the tray and it cannot read it.  I opened the tray, and the disk was centered, where it should be.

I again closed the tray, it started to spin the disc for a short time (aproximately 1/3 the time it typically takes to read a disc)  and "error" came up upon the display again.  The same happens for any disc I put in it.

Any suggestions on what may be causing this?  Anything I can do to remedy the situation short of scrapping the player?  I have been quite happy with the units sound, and would like to keep it.  Any idea of possible repair costs / range of repair cost?  Purchased new, for  aprox. $650.

Not to ask the obvious, but have you tried another disc?

If you have, how about putting a lens cleaner in there?

Good luck!

Not to point out the obvious but he did say it happens for "any disc he puts in".
