Upgrade X BSST2 -> X B3 - is it possible?
« on: 25 Jan 2016, 06:32 pm »
Is it going to be possible to upgrade a SST2 to a Cubed?  That is, to modify an existing SST2 with the improvements from the Cubed.

If so, how much would this cost?

Hi

We are looking at that now but will not have pricing for a few weeks.  We will upgrade the 'guts' but not the faceplates.

Is this a change from what you said in the other thread? I thought you said the faceplates would be part of the upgrade.

No, as far as I remember, James said only the internal components will be updated

Hi

We discussed it but our dealers and distributors felt it would cause too much confusion in the market as to what was a new amplifier vs an upgraded one.

Most folks purchase Bryston for it's honest upgrades and genuine product innovation. I am glad to have stick with Bryston amps and the service I received from both the manufacture and their service channel is superlative. On top of that Bryston stand its product for 20 long years! That's a remarkable testament and confident they have on their product.  :thumb:

I hope the upgrade cost will not be an arm or leg...pushing us to purchase a brand new Cube. Would love to but in this economy I don't have such luxury. Not forgetting the cost for me to air freight back to the factory and return...However, I am sure its all worth it!

If we can't change the faceplate, not worth upgrading! That is my opinion I don't think it is worth spending 1000 euros maybe even more for us in Europe and not changing the faceplate, count me out.

How about the serial number

We will add a character - possibly an 'X' to indicate the upgrade.

Hi James, currently the push button in front states 4BSST2. Why not use 4B3 on the power up button to simplify? Technically its a 3 and the faceplate clearly shows its an upgrade??

Hi

We had thought of that as well and maybe say 4B-3X

That will work too. An upgrade is an upgrade and I can understand the need to differentiate. Especially with the warranty of 20 years on original or new amps. A full upgrade can cause quite a confusion in the resale market. However, the price or cost of upgrade needs to e reasonable as well.

Thanks!

Sounds like some good ideas. I'm okay with the faceplate as long as there is reliable way for stt2 owners to show/prove the history to potential buyers. There should be additional value on an upgraded model. The market will determine what that is; Bryston just needs to give us a way to validate it.

My favorite so far, assuming they also issue/register an upgraded serial number. What if these buttons sneak out on the gray market?
