Hi from Ontario Canada
« on: 18 Jan 2016, 01:58 pm »
Hi! I'm a retired college programming teacher.

Just stumbled upon Audiocircle while searching the Net and thought I would join in. My main audio activities at present include getting a Raspberry Pi (with HiFiBerry Digi+) working the way I want and working out the best placement and EQ for my Axiom M80's and SVS 12 sub driven by a NAD C390DD. The listening room is a tight squeeze (16'6" x 13'4" 1760 ft^3), but I think I'm getting close to the best it's gonna get.

Among other interests; I play viola in a community orchestra and sing bass in an amateur concert choir.

Cheers!
Tim

Hi Tim,

If that is a dedicated listening room, then that ain't too bad. I've had my share of rooms smaller than that.

The most important attribute of a dedicated audio room is that it's dedicated to your audio enjoyment.  Set it up as you like, listen when you want, listen to what you want, and (if effectively insulated) listen as loud as you want.  Size/shape is secondary (unless it's closet sized   ).

OTOH it seems that you have plenty of speaker for the given size of room, but that allows you to trade large speakers for smaller quality speakers (especially already having a subwoofer).

This is a really good audio site TimP.  Welcome.

I see you've got a pair of Axiom M80's.  I have all their bookshelf models and along with Omega, I consider each vendor's products to be shockingly good for the money.  What version of the M80 do you have?

My M80s are V2. Had them since about 2005.

Hey Tim, Fred here from Hamilton

I have several Raspberry Pi's all using this Software, which in my opinion is pretty good.

http://www.max2play.com/en/

One uses the HifiBerry DAC, which is pretty good for the price, the other uses the Hifiberry Digi, connected via Spdif to my beloved Schiit Bifrost, which is REALLY good!

Cheers, Fred
